Who Can Join a Service Learning Trip (SLT)?
Anyone eager to make a meaningful impact can join a Service Learning Trip (SLT) with MEDLIFE. The program is open to students and individuals passionate about social justice, healthcare, and community development. Whether you're a high school or university student, you can contribute to sustainable development while learning about global health challenges in countries like Peru, Ecuador, and Tanzania.
A Service Learning Trip (SLT) is an immersive, one-week experience designed for anyone interested in contributing to global health and development. The program invites people who want to make a difference while learning firsthand about the root causes of poverty and inequality.
Whether you're a high school student, university student, or someone who is looking to gain hands-on volunteer experience, you can participate in an SLT. Volunteers collaborate with local communities, healthcare professionals, and project leaders in Latin America and Africa to improve access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Who Is Eligible?
- Students (High School & University)
Most of the participants are students, ranging from high school to university levels. If you're seeking to fulfill volunteer hours, gain experience for your resume, or deepen your understanding of global health challenges, this is a great opportunity for you. - Community Advocates & Volunteers
Even if you're not a student, you can join an SLT if you have a strong passion for social justice, healthcare, and community empowerment. Volunteers come from all walks of life and often include people who are already engaged in various nonprofit or community-building efforts.
What Skills or Background Do You Need?
You don't need specialized skills to join an SLT—just a passion for learning and helping others. However, volunteers who are studying healthcare, social sciences, education, or international development may find this experience particularly valuable. MEDLIFE will provide you with necessary training and orientation before the trip, so you're ready to engage with local communities respectfully and responsibly.
How Does it Work?
During the SLT, you will:
- Work alongside local community members on health and development projects.
 - Gain hands-on experience in mobile medical clinics, helping with triage, health education, or basic care.
 - Participate in development projects, like building staircases or improving local water systems, that directly address community needs.
 - Learn about the root causes of poverty, and how sustainable community development can break the cycle of inequality.

Age Requirements
While the general age range for SLT participants is high school students (ages 15 and up) and university students, there may be some variations depending on the specific program and destination. Some locations may have age restrictions for certain volunteer roles, such as those requiring more technical or medical involvement.
